We need directors. It’s just a fact. It takes a lot of people to do a show, and the director is the key, the point person. If you are a director, or if you want to learn how to be a director, we need you.
Rex Kelch has delivered comedic and farcical entertainment to area audiences for years.
Tammy Calef made her directing debute with us in December 2011 with a successful fund-raiser for area services who help the homeless.
Beau Bowden is returning to the area this spring to direct Reasons to be Pretty. Auditions April 20, 2013; show dates June 20-23, 27-29.
Next fall Jerry McKeen will direct our first show of the 2013-2014 season. More about that show soon!
Many times people have asked us, “Why don’t you do musicals?… mysteries?… kid’s shows?… [enter your own genre here.]” Directors in small community theatre programs like ours, just like the actors, are volunteers. They don’t get paid. They do it because they love theatre and love directing… and they usually love a certain kind of play. It’s not the way they make a living. They direct because they enjoy it. So, if a director doesn’t enjoy mysteries, he or she won’t volunteer to direct one.
That’s why we need a lot of people who can direct. Everyone has different interests, and to offer more and different kinds of show, we need more and different kinds of directors. Interested?
If you are an experienced director, there are lots of talented performers who are just waiting for you to guide them. If you have no directorial experience, but would like to learn, we can help you with that. Even if you have never been an actor, you can learn to direct. All you need to begin with is a love for theatre and an ability to manage people effectively.
And, the fulfillment of watching your vision of a story take shape on stage—from the prep, to the casting, through the rehearsals, and finally, the performance—can’t really be overestimated.
So, if you would like to direct a show with us—whether you have experience or want to learn—please, go to https://www.act2theatre.org/adult-registration-form/ and let us know!
