After having to shut down the show at our final dress rehearsal in March 2020, we’re ready to give Meddling Spirits another go. Most of the original cast is back and ready to start rehearsing, but we need a couple of actors to fill in for those who will not be able to revive their roles.
In particular, we’re looking for a woman to play the part of Juanita. She’s the daughter of Shirley, the owner of the Sleepy Creek Inn and Winery where the action takes place. (Shirley will now be played by Cinda Jamison). We also need a man (60-something) to fill the role of Hans Burkhalter.
To refresh your memory, Shirley Phillips, a widow and the owner of the Inn is having money problems. Under pressure from her daughter, Juanita, and son-in-law, Delbert, she reluctantly agrees to have a seance for Hans and Jacklyn Burkhalter of Park Ave. N.Y. who want to book the Inn for the event. The Burkhalters’ daughter, who recently spent her honeymoon at the Inn, went missing before returning home. Heartbroken, the Burkhalters believe the Inn will be the perfect place for the seance to find out what happened to their daughter because “that’s where the Burkhalters are happiest.”
But the alignment of the stars and planets — and an approaching snow storm — prevent psychic , Madame Esmerelda, from arriving on time. Unfortunately, two escaped prisoners on the run take secret refuge in the Inn and intercept that message. They pretend to be Madame Esmerelda and her assistant. As escapee EZ Zigler says to her partner, “Bull” Schmidt, “All we gotta do is act like a couple weirdos to fool some people we don’t know into believing that we’re weirdos who know what we’re doing! How hard could it be with these bumpkins?” But “Meddling Spirits” may throw a wrench into their plans.
Rehearsals begin again September 25 of 26.
