Joshua Stubbs: Musical director for The Fantasticks

We are excited to announce that singer and music director extraordinaire , Joshua Stubbs, has agreed to take on the musical direction for our upcoming show, The Fantasticks.

Joshua has appeared in Granger’s Test Tube (Kevin), Trouble in Tahiti (Sam), Summer and Smoke (John), The Magic Flute (Papageno), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Bottom), Le Nozze di Figaro (Count Almaviva), La Bohème (Marcello), The Telephone (Ben), Douglas Moore’s Gallantry (Dr. Gregg), and Dido and Æneas (Sorcerer). He has been a soloist in Handel’s Messiah, Brahms’ Ein Deutches Requiem, Faure’s Requiem, R.V. Williams’ Serenade to Music and Five Mystical Songs, and Mendelssohn’s Elijah.

He has accompanied musical theatre productions such as A Chorus Line, Godspell, Songs for a New World, Wicked, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Nunsense, and You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. With Buckhannon Community Theatre, he music directed and accompanied Godspell, The Music Man, The Secret Garden, The Sound of Music, Oliver!, and conducted Into the Woods. For Robert Morris University, he accompanied Songs for a New World, music directed Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson, as well as composed original music for The Miracle Worker and Servant of Two Masters.

In Harrison County, Joshua music directed The Drowsy Chaperone, Disney’s Alice in Wonderland Jr., Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr., and All Shook Up. He music directed and accompanied Godspell, Little Shop of Horrors, The Sound of Music and a concept performance of Golden Horseshoe. Freelancing, he recently arranged music for Kingdom Come and Propaganda! the musical.

Joshua received a Bachelor of Arts from West Virginia Wesleyan College, a Master of Music from Shenandoah Conservatory, and is currently pursuing candidacy for a Doctor of Musical Arts at West Virginia University, all in vocal performance.

He was awarded second place 2003, first place 2004 and 2010 in the NATS competition and was named a finalist in the NATSAA regional auditions. He participated in master classes with Nathan Gunn, Timothy Cheek, Donald George, Michael Strum, and representatives of the National Symphony Orchestra.

Currently, he maintains a private piano studio and teaches voice through Vintage Theatre Academy in Bridgeport, WV.

We are indeed privileged to have such an experienced and accomplished musical director for the first traditional musical we’ve produced since Clue: The Musical back in 2007. Joshua will be conducting the musical portion of auditions scheduled August 16 and 18 and by appointment.
