Jackie Spicer to play Steph in ‘..pretty’

We asked Jackie Spicer — currently rehearsing her part as Steph in Neil LaBute’s reasons to be pretty — to tell us a little about herself. Here’s what she told us.

I started acting in community theatre about thirteen years ago, in a local production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. In high school, I was involved in two shows with the ACT 2 Theatre Company, My Fair Lady and The Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe, a handful of productions with Harrison County Summer Theatre, and the Bridgeport High School senior production of The Mystery of Edwin Drood.

I graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College in December 2012 with two Bachelor of Arts degrees, one in English (Literature) and one in Theatre Arts (Acting/Directing). The highlights of my time at WVWC include playing Evelyn in The Shape of Things, Gay Wellington in You Can’t Take It With You, and Sister James in Doubt, as well as directing the world premiere of a show written by Fairmont native Reggie Jose entitled Not Here.

I have been a fan of Neil LaBute’s work since I first read The Shape of Things and was lucky enough to see his play In a Forest, Dark and Deep starring Matthew Fox and Olivia Williams in London in 2011.

I am very excited to be working with ACT 2 again, especially on a LaBute show!

And ACT 2 is glad to have you back, too, Jackie!
